Today (Wednesday 17 May) in Westminster Hall, next to the historic Speaker’s State Coach, The Rt Hon Nigel Evans MP for the Ribble Valley, showed his support, alongside the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT), for Britain’s modern coaches as part of #NationalCoachWeek.

The Rt Hon Nigel Evans MP said: “I know from my own constituency, coach operators like CPT member’s Bretherton’s Goldline coaches are the lifeblood of the local transport network.

“As part of #NationalCoachWeek, I want to express my thanks for the hard work of Britain's army of 2,500 coach operators - many of whom are family or individually run businesses, who deliver home-to-school, leisure, long-distance, corporate and tourism transport, as well as step in for other transport modes, come rain or shine, 365 days a year.”

The Speaker’s State Coach has been used by the Speaker of House of Commons in ceremonial occasions since 1702. The Coach had been used to transport Speakers to formal state occasions, such as Coronations and Jubilees, until retired in 2005.
