Responding to the launch of the Senedd’s Climate Change Committee’s report, CPT Cymru Director Joshua Miles said:

“I warmly welcome the Committee’s report published today which constitutes a thorough examination of the future of public transport.

“The Committee has made a number of significant recommendations including encouraging the Welsh Government to work with operators in Wales to help restore confidence in public transport and drive the recovery of passenger numbers.

“The Committee’s report also called on Welsh Government to provide more detail on how operators can be supported to meet targets for the decarbonisation of half the bus fleet by 2028.

“On bus franchising, the Committee’s early consideration has highlighted the risks and opportunities of the approach, and we look forward to working with the Committee to scrutinise the Welsh Government’s proposals and ensure they work for passengers in Wales.

“I hope Welsh Government responds positively to the Committee’s report and bus and coach operators look forward to working closely with them to deliver improvements to services in Wales.”
