CPT Reacts: Government's new two-year bus funding settlement

DfT have announced a new two-year funding settlement for the bus sector, as well as an extension to the £2 single fare cap across England. 

Responding to the announcement, CPT's CEO Graham Vidler said: 

“We welcome this two-year funding settlement. It shows a recognition of the value of buses to the economy and to local communities. It will enable bus operators and local authorities to plan, promote and grow services with greater confidence.

“However, the combination of the funding settlement and the £2 fare cap extension will not save every service in every part of the country. Operators and local authorities will now work together to study the detail of the government’s proposals and ensure that the funding is used to safeguard the best possible network for local passengers.”
