The Confederation of Passenger Transport has appointed Andy Shaw as its new Coaching Manager with a mandate to promote and support coach operators across Britain.
Starting in the role in the new year, Andy will be a key voice speaking up for the coach industry on a national stage. He will also be responsible for keeping members informed on everything from airport access to zero-emission coach developments.
Andy joins from The Go-Ahead Group, where his roles have involved coach and bus operations. He has extensive experience in the coach sector, including positions with Lochs & Glens and Edinburgh Coach Lines.
Keith McNally, Operations Director at the CPT, said: “I am delighted that Andy will be joining us soon. He brings with him a wealth of industry knowledge and has extensive experience working with stakeholders in a range of environments.
“Crucially, he knows what it’s like to manage coach operations across tour, private hire and scheduled operations and is really enthusiastic about supporting CPT members with the challenges they face.”
More than 54,000 people are directly employed by the coach sector, many of whom work for more than 2,000 small, often family owned businesses. The industry generates £6.4 billion of economic value annually through employment according to a KPMG study for the CPT.
Every day, 600,000 children travel to school by coach. In total, coach operators deliver 450 million journeys every year, and coach passengers spend £8.3 billion annually in local economies.
