On Friday 22nd October CPT responded to the government’s announcement that they will provide £1.2billion to transform bus services outside of London falling short of the £3bn promised.

“This announcement falls far short of the £3bn the government and Prime Minister have committed to several times, including as recently as this week as part of their net zero strategy. Their rhetoric is unfortunately not being matched by reality.

“Without full funding the delivery of measures to improve services for passengers including making journeys more reliable, integrating ticketing and increasing the frequency of services will not be delivered at anything like the scale of ambition envisaged by the National Bus Strategy. It is vital that the Spending Review next week sets out the full picture for how the ambition we share with government to improve bus services will be delivered, including a long term roadmap for 4000 zero emission buses.”
