The Government last night announced that they have pledged £5bn to be spent on bus services and cycling routes over the next 5 years. Responding to this announcement, Confederation of Passenger Transport Chief Executive Graham Vidler said:

"This is welcome news for bus passengers and a strong statement of support for the role of buses in tackling environmental, social and economic issues. It is vital that this funding is used to make sustainable, long-term improvements to bus services. We'll be working with Government to ensure investment is focused on tackling congestion and supporting the bus industry's bold plans to transition to zero emission vehicles."

The extra funding will go towards providing more frequent services and simpler, more affordable fares. There will also be investment in new priority routes for buses and 4,000 zero-emission buses in England and Wales.
