LOCAL BUS SERVICES UNDER THREAT FOLLOWING WELSH GOVERNMENT DECISION

Local bus services across Wales are at risk and fares certain to rise following a drastic cut in essential funding to operators announced by the Welsh Government. A massive 25 reduction in Bus Service Operators Grant BSOG from 1 April 2012 will mean extra cost of millions of pounds to bus operators who are already facing big hikes in their running costs. BSOG, formerly known as the Fuel Duty Rebate FDR, rebates bus operators for the fuel duty they pay when running local registered bus services and has been in existence since its introduction by the erstwhile Labour Government in 1965.
