CPT News Release: New Professional Accreditation for Bus and Coach Workshops

Published: 18-08-2014

The Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT) has today launched a new professional ‘Workshop Accreditation’ designed specifically for the bus and coach industry.

The Accreditation, developed by CPT’s Engineering Committee, assesses bus and coach operator workshops and bus and coach dealer workshops against a series of in-depth engineering compliance and health & safety based procedures.

The two-day onsite audit, which will be carried out by CPT’s commercial partners and qualified assessors, Lloyd Morgan Group, is open to all CPT members who operate a DVSA Approved Testing Facility or carry out bus and coach maintenance.

On completion of a successful audit, the depot/workshop will receive a certificate (valid for three years) and be added to a list of approved centres.

Speaking at the launch of the Workshop Accreditation, CPT’s Operations DirectorStephen Smith said:

“I am delighted to be launching the second of CPT’s two unique accreditations for the bus and coach industry.

“Having worked alongside our Engineering Committee on the development of both, and with the continued support of the Traffic Commissioners, they are now fully up and running and available for CPT members to register.”

He continued: “This new professional standard, along with our Engineering Accreditation and initiatives such as our Compliance and Transport Manager Workshops, show a clear demonstration of the importance that CPT and the whole industry places on ensuring the highest levels of safety and compliance.”

Traffic Commissioner Kevin Rooney said:
“I am delighted that the CPT has brought forward this ground-breaking initiative. The bus and coach industry is placing compliance at the very core of its business, and anything which continues to drive up standards is to be commended.”
Pete Thompson, Director at the Lloyd Morgan Group added:

“We are delighted to have been part of the Workshop Accreditation development.
“It has been specifically designed for our industry, helping operators to achieve a standardised workshop compliance benchmark and promoting confidence in those workshops that obtain the accreditation.

“The Workshop Accreditation and the management qualification are both great opportunities for operators, workshops and individuals alike to stand out from their counterparts.”
