CPT News Release: Cardiff is awarded Coach Friendly Status by CPT
Cardiff has become the first city inWales to be awarded the status of coach friendly by the Confederation of Passenger Transport.
The Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT) awards this status to destinations which show clear commitments to understanding the investment and commitment made in providing facilities for coaches, their passengers and drivers.
In awarding the title to Cardiff CPT noted the city's commitment to coach facilities, in particular praising the coach park facilities at Sophia Gardens, which offers city centre parking for coaches The Council also provides on-street coach parking bays which are located at various sites throughout the Cardiff including Corbett Road and Gorsedd Gardens Road.
Simon Posner Chief Executive at the Confederation of Passenger Transport said; "We are particularly delighted that Cardiff has become the first city in Wales to receive this award. As an industry we are urging Local Authorities to do much more to improve facilities for coach operators and their customers.
"Good signage, toilets, adequate coach parking, all play a part in growing visitor numbers and boosting the local economy. But failure by some authorities to pro-actively welcome coach passengers has resulted in customers quite simply choosing to go somewhere that does.
"Cardiff has so much to offer as a destination - with coach friendly status it will ensure it is positioned perfectly to reap the benefits and puts itself squarely in the category of great tourist location of choice.”
