CPT News Release: Coach Friendly Alnwick Recognised by UK Coaching Industry
Alnwick Town (Northumberland), The Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle have today been awarded CPT’s prestigious Coach Friendly status.
The Award, as voted by CPT operators and members of the National Coach Parking Committee, was presented to Christian Perdrier, CEO of Alnwick Castle and The Alnwick Garden, and David Woodard, Chairman of Northumberland County Council at the Best of Britain and Ireland 2010 (BoBI) at Olympia in London.
On receiving the Award Christian Perdrier said, “Group tourism is a critical part of our growth strategy and we are delighted to be recognised for our efforts in ensuring The Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle’s facilities for coach tourism are of the highest possible quality.
“We have ambitious plans for Alnwick and we hope and expect to generate even larger visitor numbers in future, with groups travelling by coach from the UK and overseas a priority.”
Councillor David Woodard, chairman of Northumberland County Council said, “Both the county council and the former Alnwick District Council have worked very closely with Alnwick town and with the Garden and Castle in order to ensure that the maximum benefit is gained both from and for the coach industry. We are delighted that our efforts in working collaboratively and consulting with and listening to the industry have been recognised in this award.”
CPT President Steve Whiteway added, “We are delighted to add Alnwick to our growing list of recognised Coach Friendly towns, cities and attractions, and it is most apt that they should receive this during British Tourism Week.
"They have shown a clear commitment to the UK’s coaching and tourism markets by engaging with and understanding the requirements of coach operators, drivers and their passengers.”
He continued, “This Award will further cement Alnwick as a tourist location of choice, and with coach travel and coach holidays in the UK currently on the increase, this will provide a tremendous economic boost.”
CPT’s Coach Friendly Awards are also held by Stratford-on-Avon, Rochester, Windsor, Southport, Salisbury, Eden Valley, Chester, Bury and Lichfield.
