CPT News Release: ‘Project Coach’ hailed a success as Burnham-on-Sea receives ‘Coach Friendly’ status

Published: 03-04-2014

The Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT) is pleased to announce that the coastal town of Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset has been awarded ‘Coach Friendly’ status.

The status acknowledges the commitment that Burnham has made to understanding the requirements of coaches and their passengers, whilst also providing first class facilities and information sources for drivers.

The town, with the support of Burnham Chamber of Trade, Somerset Tourism Association and Sedgemoor District, Somerset County and Burnham Town councils, has been working on ‘Project Coach’ for the past two years.

This plan has seen the development and implementation of a coach website - incorporating detailed maps and discount vouchers for drivers - new and improved signage, a dedicated drivers’ rest area and a notice board displaying information on many of the town’s major attractions.
Speaking at the presentation last week (24 March), CPT’s Manager for the South Western region, John Burch said:

“I am delighted to award Burnham-on-Sea with CPT’s prestigious Coach Friendly status.

“This award has been designed to recognise and reward the efforts of UK towns and cities, along with tourist attractions and local authorities, who go that extra mile to encourage and accommodate coaches and coach tourism – and Burnham-on-Sea certainly ticks all the right boxes.

“Their comprehensive Project Coach plan shows they have a real understanding of the important role our industry plays.”

The Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT) is the national trade association representing bus and coach operators.
