03-04-2012 M4 Vehicle Weight Restriction - UPDATED Further to yesterday’s news story several members have been in contact to say that the signage does not currently state PSV vehicles in the weight restriction. The Highways Agency have confirmed that the restriction does include ALL vehicles, including buses and coaches and that the signage will be changed tomorrow evening and Thursday evening (to a set of weak bridge signs). In the meantime Members are advised to adhere to the information below. |

02-04-2012 M4 Vehicle Weight Restriction Extended The Highways Agency is advising drivers that a weight restriction on the M4 between junctions 1 and 3 in west London is being extended overnight and will now include any vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes (the restriction is 24/7). They have asked CPT to remind drivers that this restriction covers all vehicles including Buses and Coaches. VOSA and the Met police will be actively monitoring compliance. |

A massive 25% reduction in Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) from 1 April 2012 will mean extra cost of millions of pounds to bus operators who are already facing big hikes in their running costs. 06-01-2012 Mayor on site as work begins to strengthen Hammersmith Flyover The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, visited the A4 Hammersmith flyover today to inspect work being carried out to repair one of the most vital stretches of road in the capital as soon as possible. The complex flyover was forced to close due to water damage that has corroded and weakened the cables that give the bridge its strength. It had been thought that it would be up to ten years before any major work was required on the flyover, however recent maintenance checks showed work would be required much earlier than anticipated. |

23-03-2011 Fuel Duty changes are welcome but nothing to promote modal shift, say CPT Commenting on today’s budget announcements on fuel duty, Simon Posner Chief Executive at the Confederation of Passenger Transport said: “We welcome the announcement by the Chancellor in his Budget that the proposed fuel duty increases will not go ahead and that duty will be cut by one pence. Despite this change, our bus services remain under pressure due to a mix of factors: cuts in local authority tendered services; reductions in the amounts operators are reimbursed in respect of the concessionary fare scheme; and the 20% cut in the fuel duty effective in April 2012. Any cut in the cost of fuel is helpful, but maintaining existing fares and services to our customers will be difficult under these conditions.” |

Some of the particularly harsh and unfair features in the draft have been changed, following pressure from CPT, but most operators will find themselves facing a reduction in payments from 1 April, and will need to make a case to get what they are due. CPT's analysis suggests that DfT has made twelve changes that make reimbursement fairer for operators, but they have refused to accept our arguments on eight other points. |

10-08-2010 2010 Parking Charges Consultation CPT has learnt that a parking charges consultation has recently been issued jointly by London Councils and Transport for London (TfL) and it is important as stakeholders that we have the right of response. Managing London’s road network is undertaken by London’s 33 local authorities and TfL. This management takes many forms and includes the requirement to enforce penalties to allow the free and expeditious movement of traffic throughout the Capital. TfL and the boroughs are collectively responsible for setting the level of such penalties, which are used to “ensure compliance for the benefit of London as a whole”. |

New buses built in a single stage and intended for registration from 29 October 2010 will no longer be eligible for a Certificate of Initial Fitness (COIF) from that date. Instead they will be subject to the new approval regime of European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA) and will require type approval or individual vehicle approval. VOSA are offering the “Individual Vehicle Approval” (IVA) as an optional scheme ahead of the mandatory date. Each vehicle is submitted for inspection in a similar way as for COIF. |
